I RECOMMEND FUSHIMI-INARITAISHA TO ALL TOURISTS

Kyoto city was a capital of Japan has a rare shrine called fushimi-Inaritaisha at the foot of Mt.Inari. According to Trip advisor survey, this shrine was the top of “2014 the most popular tourist spot selected by a foreigner tourists in Japan”. Of course it’s the popular spot not only a foreigner tourists but also Japanese.

Fushimi-Inaritaisha was opened by Hata family immigrated from ancient Korean peninsula into Japan in 8th centry.
This is the head of 30,000 Inari-shrine all over Japan. More than 5,000 Torii called Senbonn-Torii and stone foxes are over trail that toward top of the Mt.Inari.

JAPAN XXX RELIGION

What is the main religion in Japan?

I think that many visitors from all over the world to Japan have had this question once.

Buddhism?

It's a little different.
So many people (including Japanese)say Buddhism is the national religion in Japan. But a traditional religious facility called Jinja(Shrine) in Japan is the Shinto's facility, not Buddhism.

Buddhism arrived from India, via China, Korea in 6th century. Ancient Japanese gravitated toward it and built Buddhism temple in Shrine. It would be a strange accident for a monotheist because of it's like that a Mosque is build in a Church.

This situation had been remained until beginning Meiji period and government(19th century). Meiji government set Shinto as the national religion to catch up Western counties. This setting is that Tenno-Heka(The Emperor in Japan) is the top of Shinto, posterity of God of Shinto. Moreover, The government separated Buddhism from Shinto to make purification the national religion Shinto.

After the Pacific War(ww2 in Europe), GHQ divested Tenno-Heka of his religious particular and Japanese government has abandoned the national religion because of that had led to the tragic war. Even in today, religious education has been cut out of the place of public school.

But

Not Japan has abandoned Buddhism and Shinto.
It means that those still establishe a permanent place as the main religions of Japan.

If you want to travel in japan, Please do not forget this strange relations between Shinto and Buddhism.
